Tre ragazzi di Pavia, mettono in piedi nel 1999 un trio strumentale dal curioso nome, “Ultraviolet Makes me Sick” iniziando a comporre la propria musica. UVMMS è: Alberto Anadone, chitarra e occasionalmente basso fretless e non – Gianmaria Aprile, chitarra – Davie Impellizzeri - batteria I due primi ep della band, senza etichetta discografica alle spalle, ottengono un ottimo riscontro nella scena musicale indipendente Italiana, con ottime recensioni nelle riviste specializzate e concerti, e sono notati dall’etichetta indipendente Australiana orientata verso la psichedelia, Camera Obscura Records, che produce il primo disco di UVMMS “Soundproof” nel 2001. La musica è cinematica, calda, slow motion e fisica allo stesso tempo, semplice e poco arrangiata strettamente correlata all’ispirazione, sperimentale ma non complessa o mentale, e completamente strumentale, molte canzoni senza l’uso del basso (chitarra/chitarra/batteria). Mentre “Soundproof” raggiunge una tiratura di più di 1000 copie (in Italia, Australia, Inghilterra, USA e Europa), un importante live management Italiano (Tour de Force) accoglie la band nel proprio rooster, contemporaneamente vengono pubblicate molte recensioni che mettono UVMMS tra i migliori gruppi della new wave strumentale del dopo post-rock. Il secondo disco viene creato nel 2003, le session di incisione di “No freeway, no plan, no trees, no ghosts…” terminano in luglio. La Post produzione, mixing, editing e mastering sono affidati a Fabio Magistrali che aggiunge al disco un suono caldo, aperto e spaziale facendolo suonare molto diverso dal precedente “Soundproof”. Il disco vede le prime trace cantate di uvmms, armonie pop/slow-core cantate da Andrea Ferraris, membro dei “Deep End” e di “One by One we’re all becoming shades”. Andrea inizia a seguire il gruppo nei concerti dal vivo abbandonando il trio e inserendo il basso in quasi tutti i pezzi sul palco. La musica diventa più lenta e avvolgente su questo secondo disco, come una sorta di viaggio psichedelico , con molte canzoni semiacusctiche e desertiche. “No freeway, no plan, no trees, no ghosts…”, secondo disco ufficiale di UVMMS, esce a febbraio 2004 per Camera Obscura, come sempre per il resto del momdo tranne l’Italia dove una importante etichetta indipendente, Urtovox records, pubblica il gruppo. Gli anni 2004/2005 vedono la partecipazione a molte compilations, la più importante “Song for another place” edita Urtovox/Awful Bliss o le compilation delle riviste Losing Today e Mucchio Selvaggio, un lavoro di incrocio e improvvisazione con la band italiana Sogni Verticali, e l’inizio dei lavori per il terzo album di UVMMS. Il terzo album del gruppo, registrato e mixato nella camera piena di vecchi specchi di una vecchia cascina da GM. Aprile e L.Monti, è completato nel 2006/2007 con un ensemble di cinque elementi con voce e tastiera, che danno al suono di base dalla matrice rock psichedelico, un gusto pop. Finalizzato e masterizzato ad Amsterdam da Zlaya (www.zlayamusic.com), “Stuck in the Room full of Mirrors” esce ad inzio 2008 per l’etichetta indipendente italiana Utrovox records, e fissa un altro punto nel viaggio di Ultraviolet Mkes Me Sick, il punto di una produzione per la prima volta strutturata e complessa, che esplora rock, psichedelia, pop e strumentale come in uno sguardo profondo in un caleidoscopio. While “Soundproof” reached a distribution of 1000 and more copies (in Italy, Australia, England, USA and Europe), an important Italian live management (Tour de Force) got the band in their rooster, and many good reviews were written about the band putting UVMMS as one of the best emerging bands in the instrumental wave that followed post-rock in Italy. Finalized as a master in Amsterdam by Zlaya (www.zlayamusic.com), “Stuck in the Room full of Mirrors” is available in 2008, edited by indie Italian label Utrovox records, and fix another point in Ultraviolet Mkes Me Sick trip, the point of a real textured production, exploring rock, psichedelia, pop and instrumental as looking deep in a kaleidoscope.
